Hal Studio is an independent design studio born out of a collective production culture in Sinop. It was formed in 2023 by Hal Collective, an independent culture and art initiative consisting of volunteers from the Sinopale International Sinop Biennial; since 2024, it has continued under the name Hal Studio with the production and designs of Hal Collective member Yağmur Güzle.
The studio’s starting point is the “In Place and Together” project carried out by Hal Collective. As part of this project, a waste map of the city was created in an area stretching from Sinop’s Organized Industrial Zone to its shores, and a comprehensive inventory was created by analyzing the waste. Collaborations with designers and artists transformed this inventory into creative productions, laying the foundation for Hal Studio.
The name Hal Studio comes from the Hal, Sinop Meeting Center, where the first productions took place.
The Hal Building, constructed in 1957 by Muharrem Tansel, was transformed into the Sinop Meeting Center in 2016 with the support of the Sinop Sustainable Development Association, founded by Sinopale volunteers, and Sinopale, becoming the center of the city’s cultural, artistic, and civil society activities.
For Hal Studio, the space is a memory. It centers on solidarity, local knowledge, and the idea of collective creation.
